Coral Cay Conservation has been operating in the Philippines since 1995; they moved to their current location in Southern Leyte in 2002. Since then the organisation has been working closely with project partners, the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation Inc. and the Provincial Government of Southern Leyte, to survey and monitor the coastal resources of Sogod Bay. The survey effort is currently focused on setting up and investigating Marine Protected Areas. Volunteers are involved in carrying out dive surveys both inside and outside these protected areas in order to assess their biological state and to help inform marine conservation managers.
As a volunteer, you will receive all the scientific and PADI SCUBA diving training that you need to become a valuable member of the team’s in-water survey effort. As an active participant on a worthwhile research project, you will dive on some of the most diverse and beautiful reefs in the world, collecting vital information on the health of the marine ecosystem. The data that you gather will then be used to inform the management recommendations for protecting the incredible marine biodiversity of Sogod Bay. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to be involved with our education, outreach and capacity building programmes. Working closely with local educators and schools, you will help to inspire the next generation of reef custodians.
